KATHMANDU: In response to the ongoing “Rashtra Bachau Maha Abhiyan” campaign led by medical practitioner Durga Prasai, the government took measures on Friday by deploying police personnel around Prasai’s residence in Bhaktapur.

This move comes after the District Administration Office had previously warned Prasai of potential legal actions, emphasizing that any actions by him posing a threat to peace and security during the demonstration would be met with legal consequences.

Following Prasai’s inaugural demonstration at Balkhu on Thursday, where he later declared the continuation of the campaign from Tinkune, tensions escalated. Notably, clashes erupted between supporters of Prasai and Yuva Sangh, the CPN-UML affiliated youth association, during separate demonstrations in Kathmandu on Thursday. Subsequent clashes between Prasai’s supporters and the police occurred at Kalimati.

The increased police presence around Prasai’s residence underscores the heightened tensions surrounding the campaign and the government’s efforts to maintain public order.
