Dissolution of federalism, reinstatement of Hindu state raised in NC CWC meeting

KATHMANDU: Concerns regarding the dissolution of federalism took center stage during the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the Nepali Congress.

Some central members of the party voiced their support for reinstating Nepal as a Hindu state.

NC central member Shankar Bhandari accused NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba of hesitating, despite a majority of members signing and submitting their support for a return to a Hindu nation.

Bhandari stated, “During the previous Mahasamiti meeting, a majority of attending members submitted a note demanding that the party make a decision in favor of a Hindu state.”

Bhandari emphasized that since this issue resonates with the majority of NC members, it should be included as an agenda item in the upcoming Mahasamiti meeting.

Furthermore, several lawmakers, including Bhandari, raised concerns about the dissolution of federalism, arguing that it does not reflect the sentiments of the general populace.
