Flooding and landslides block 7 major highways

KATHMANDU: Numerous sections of national highways are currently impassable due to a combination of floods and landslides, causing disruptions across the country.

A total of seven major highways have been affected, with blockages occurring at multiple locations along each route.

As per the latest update from the Department of Road, the Chatara-Mulghat Majhitar-Amarapurdanda-Ganeshchowk stretch within the Tamor Corridor has been obstructed at Majhitar in Panchthar.

According to the Department, the Rani Biratnagar-Itahari-Dharan Dhankuta Hille route, along with the Teghuwaghat-Tumlingtar Khandbari-Num Kimathangka section under the Koshi Highway, has been blocked at the Sankhuwasabha junction.

Further obstructions are reported along the Balaju-Trishuli-Dhunche-Safrubesi path of the Pasang Lhamu Highway, where an obstruction has occurred at Nigale in Nuwakot.

Kalikot’s Gulje region is grappling with road obstructions at Surkhet Dungeshwar-Satkhamba, Duttu-Pipalkot-Khulalu-Manma, and Nagma-Jumla roads, according to the Department.

The Dumre Besisahar-Chame route in Manang is also severely impacted, with obstructions at Chamche, Rambazar, and Ghopte.

In addition, the Pokhara Siddharth Highway’s Belhiya-Bhairahawa-Butwal-Bhartung Ramdi Syangja road section is obstructed at Hulde Khola and Kalimati in Palpa.

Likewise, travelers on the Thori-Bharatpur-Mugling route, the Anvukhaireni Gorkha Gyampesal road, and the Arughat Sirdibas-Roila Bhanjyang pathway face disruptions, as blockages are reported at the Namsi Bridge in Chitwan, according to the Department.
