Sinja provides Rs 5,000 allowance to new mothers



KATHMANDU: The Sinja Rural Municipality of Jumla district has provided new mothers with Rs 5,000 each as maternity allowance.

Those expecting women availing delivery services in the birthing centers are beneficiaries of the scheme, said Lalit Rokaya, chief of the Department of Health in Sinja Rural Municipality.

A new policy was adopted by the rural municipality to reduce the delivery of babies at home to nil and encourage expecting mothers to visit the birthing centers for delivering babies.

So far, 26 new mothers in the rural municipality have received the allowance, shared Purna Prasad Dhital, Chairperson of the Rural Municipality.

All wards in the rural municipality have birthing centers at present which is expected to reduce the maternal mortality rate as well as the neonatal mortality rate.
