Monsoon-induced floods and landslides likely in these areas today

KATHMANDU: Together with the monsoon spread across the country, many places have become vulnerable to floods today.

It is raining in most parts of the country since this morning.

As the monsoon spreads across the country, moderate to heavy rains is falling in different parts of the country.

According to the Department of Water and Meteorology, Flood Forecasting Division, many areas of Kaski and Makwanpur districts are experiencing heavy rainfall. As the level of the rivers flowing through these areas will rise, the department has urged the people of the areas to be cautious.

The department has asked to be cautious in the coastal areas of Mahakali as the water level in Mahakali and its tributaries is likely to rise significantly today and tomorrow and reach the alert level in some areas.

The Department forecasted that Bara, Parsa, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhuli, Chitwan, Kaski, Parbat, Nawalparasi (East of Bardghat Susta), Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Arghakhanchi, Pyuthan, Rolpa, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Doti, Baitadi, Bajhang and Darchula are likely to be affected, as there is a risk of flash floods in and around these places. The Department requested to be vigilant in the coastal areas of the rivers in the above mentioned places.

Similarly, the flow may increase in some small rivers around Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Makwanpur, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Surkhet, Dailekh, Achham, and Bajura, the Department said.
