Fake Bhutanese refugee scam: HURPES stages sit-ins in 22 districts in protest

KATHMANDU: The Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) has launched sit-ins at 46 places in 22 districts across the country today, demanding action against those involved in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.

In this regard, a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has been submitted through the Chief District Officer of the respective districts where the protest has taken place, said the Society acting president Krishna Bahadur Rawal.

The Society has demanded fair investigations into the case and action against those involved in it, irrespective of their political portfolios and affiliations, according to the memo.

It has also decided to observe the 16th Republic Day by organizing various programs and its 28th Establishment Day while urging the government to ensure good governance, transparency, and accountability. The Society was established on 1 June 1996 with the aim of working in the field of sustainable peace and human rights.
