NC Gen Secy warns of protests if federal government denies rights to provinces

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has issued a stern warning, stating that if the federal government neglects to enact laws empowering the provinces, they will mobilize toward Singha Durbar in protest against the lack of legislative action.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Bagmati Province Conference of the Nepali Congress, Sharma expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that the Prime Minister had overlooked their requests to establish laws securing the rightful autonomy of the provinces.

Sharma highlighted grievances from Lumbini, Gandaki, Madhes, and Bagmati provinces, emphasizing their discontent over the denial of constitutional rights.

“The provinces haven’t demanded uranium, diamonds, or pearls. They seek the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. If these rights aren’t respected, NC will stage a protest at Singha Durbar,” declared the NC General Secretary.

He stressed the urgency of legislating on civil service, public service commissions, security, and specific economic rights. Sharma emphasized that the NC would stand alongside the provincial governments in their fight for these rights.
