No exemptions from loan repayment: Finance Minister Mahat

BHAKTAPUR: Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat declared unequivocally today that no one is exempt from loan repayment obligations.

Speaking at a program in Bhaktapur on Thursday, Dr. Mahat emphasized that individuals are obligated to repay loans acquired for investment purposes.

“The acquisition of significant loan amounts without repayment is not permissible. No one is exempt from honoring their loan commitments. However, the state will provide support to genuine debtors facing hardship due to loans,” he asserted.

Highlighting the potential for economic development, Dr. Mahat underscored the importance of information technology, hydropower, and tourism in Nepal.

He urged the youth to seize the opportunities available in these sectors.

While acknowledging the challenges, the Finance Minister expressed confidence in the country’s development.

He stated, “The republic achieved through the sacrifices of the people cannot be compromised. Attempts to undermine the system through negative sentiments will not succeed.”

Addressing concerns about misinformation, Dr. Mahat noted ongoing efforts to spread propaganda against the current system through social media.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and discerning consumers of information.

Discussing cultural initiatives, the minister highlighted the government’s decision to adopt Nepal Sambat as the official calendar, citing the contributions of Shankhadhar Sakhwa.

He assured that the implementation of this decision is underway.
