Mahesh Basnet alleges Prachanda of harboring royalist sentiments

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet has leveled serious allegations against Prime Minister and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, accusing him of harboring royalist sentiments.

Addressing a crowd during a Yuwa Sangh’s rally in Tinkune on Thursday, Basnet asserted that their presence on the streets was a response to queries about the republic’s status.

He expressed, “Yesterday, KP Oli faced accusations of being a monarchist rather than a republican. Today, Oli comrade and his affiliated organizations are countering those who questioned the republic in the first place.”

The Federal Democratic Republic, Basnet claimed, is a system that Nepalese society has embraced for a considerable period.

“When it comes under attack, the UML stands as the first line of defense. Why are Prachanda and Sher Bahadur Deuba remaining silent when the republic is at threat?”

Basnet dismissed the notion of an imminent threat to the republic, emphasizing that only questions had been raised.

He added, “Prachanda might even be inclined towards royalist tendencies to perpetuate violence. Yesterday, his party’s general secretary, Dev Gurung, echoed a similar sentiment.”
