Rainfall across Nepal: WFD urges people to undertake precautions

KATHMANDU: Rainfall has been witnessed in several parts of Nepal, including Kathmandu, since the early hours of today.

According to Rojan Lamichhane, a meteorologist at the Weather Forecasting Division, light to moderate rainfall is currently witnessed in various regions of the country.

Lamichhane stated, “Rainfall has been widespread throughout the country. This weather pattern is anticipated to persist for an additional two to three days.”

The Weather Forecasting Division has indicated the likelihood of moderate to heavy rain during the afternoon in select hilly areas, primarily within the Sudurpaschim Province, as well as a few other locations nationwide today.

Additionally, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain occurring in segments of the Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, along with some isolated places in the remaining provinces.

Notably, the Kathmandu Valley is also expected to experience rainfall during the afternoon hours.

In anticipation of these weather conditions, the Division has released a warning and advisory extending over the next 24 hours until 6 am on Thursday.

The advisory highlights the potential for heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in one or two locations within the Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Consequently, there is a possibility of rising river water levels, leading to increased flow, floods, landslides, and erosion in these areas.

These weather-induced phenomena could adversely impact public health, agriculture, daily routines, as well as road and air transportation.

Given the circumstances, the Division has urged individuals to undertake necessary precautions in order to mitigate potential inconveniences, risks, or damages that may arise from these weather conditions.
