KATHMANDU: Police arrested a person from Kathmandu on the charge of character assassination of a woman using social media.

Tufan KC, 29, originally from Bhumikasthan Municipality-4, Arghakhanchi and currently residing in Kumaripati of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality-19 has been arrested on the charge of using Facebook messenger to carry out the illegal act.

He was arrested by a team from the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police, according to Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police Kuber Kathayat.

KC was arrested based on a complaint filed against him of character assassination by using obscene and insulting words in the photos posted on the victim’s Facebook account when he was asked to refrain from such activities while receiving a video call on Facebook messenger thinking of him being a known person.

Technical investigation and analysis by the police found KC’s involvement and was hence arrested.

He is now under investigation for the offense under the Electronic Transaction Act, 2063 BS after being remanded to judicial custody for seven days by the District Court Kathmandu.
