Vehicular movement along Prithvi Highway to be allowed today

Local roads to remain closed today

KATHMANDU: Vehicular movement would be permitted along Prithvi Highway in today’s by-election for the House of Representatives in Tanahu-1 as part of the security plan.

An arrangement has been made to allow the operation of vehicles from Muglin to Chapaghat along the Prithvi highway under police escort.

Chief District Officer of Tanahu, Chhabilal Rijal, however, said that passengers would not be allowed to get in or off the bus in the places under Tanahu-1 where the by-election is taking place today.

Vehicles to and from Muglin and Pokhara, as well as those heading towards Muglin from Chapaghat, would be escorted in a span of one and a half hours, he added. Inner roads of five local levels under Tanahu-1 would be completely closed on Sunday.

Rijal urged not to travel unnecessarily on Sunday and to use an alternative route if there is an emergency.

Passengers could not get off from vehicles at Byas, Abukhaireni, Bhanu, Bandipur and Devghat areas in Tanahu-1 keeping the sensitivity of the election in mind.

Ambulances, vehicles of health institutions and those carrying milk and garbage would be allowed to ply on April 23.

CDO Rijal opined that security has been beefed up in order to hold elections in a free, fearless and impartial manner.
