Traffic police sets 50 km per hour as the speed limit in Kathmandu valley

KATHMANDU: Valley Traffic Police Office has decided to curb over speeding trend of vehicles and bikes in Kathmandu by setting the speed limit of 50 km per hour in the valley.

According to the Valley Traffic Police Office, the speed limit in the fast track is set as 50 km and service track 20 km on the Kalanki-Koteshwar road section.

“As a means to curb the traffic accidents, the office has set the speed limit taking into account the physical condition of the road and the speed control provisions mentioned in the Vehicle and Traffic Management Act 2049 and Regulation 2054,” Traffic Police Office said.

Similarly, the speed limit has been set at 50 km per hour on the Koteshwar-Bhaktapur road section.

According to traffic police, speed limit boards have also been placed at different places of the valley as required to alert the speed limit.

The traffic police have been fining those who drive more than the specified speed of late.
