NC to seek parties’ support for President



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded timely election of the President.

A meeting of the party office-bearers held at the residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Dhumbarahi drew the attention of the government and the Election Commission to remove the legal hurdles for the President’s election.

Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said that they have decided to seek the support of other parties in the parliament regarding the President’s election.

He said that the presidential election should be held by February 12.

Dr. Mahat said, “We have heard that the government is trying to delay the election, which is unacceptable.”

NC leader Dr. Shashank Koirala said his party would register the candidacy for the President.

“Nepali Congress will nominate a candidate for the President’s election,” he said.
