Parliament Secretariat grants NC main opposition party status

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has recognized Nepali Congress (NC) as the main opposition party. Sending a letter to NC Parliamentary Party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, the Secretariat informed that the Nepali Congress PP leader would receive service facilities as the leader of the opposition party.

PM Dahal vows to reduce number of ministries in provinces

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has said that the number of ministries in the provinces will be reduced. The Prime Minister said the decision to this will be made soon in a bid to reduce the expenses. He claimed that the work of reducing the number has already been done in some provinces as per his proposal.

NC to seek parties’ support for President

Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded timely election of the President. A meeting of the party office-bearers held at the residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Dhumbarahi drew the attention of the government and the Election Commission to remove the legal hurdles for the President’s election. Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said that they have decided to seek the support of other parties in the parliament regarding the President’s election.

PM Dahal and Speaker Ghimire hold talks

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire held talks on Monday morning. Speaker Ghimire reached Prime Minister Dahal’s residence in Baluwatar this morning and discussed the current political developments.

Police nab domestic terminal chief Chudal on corruption allegations

Police arrested Chief of Domestic Terminal Office, Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, Purna Prasad Chudal on corruption allegations on Monday. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) recovered a large amount of expensive liquor and a large sum of money from Chudal’s office.

RSP to expand its organization within four months

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to expand its organization across the country. The party’s Central Committee has decided to expand the organization throughout the country by May this year. A statement issued by RSP spokesperson Mukul Dhakal mentioned that the party would expand its organization across the country.

Newly-elected Deputy Speaker Rana announces her political dissociation

Newly elected Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives Indira Rana has announced her political disassociation with her party. The HoR meeting on January 21 elected her to the position. “To make the post of Speaker free, impartial, credible and respectful, I have announced my disassociation from all political and organizational responsibilities of my party until I hold the position,” she said.

Min Bahadur Shrestha appointed as NPC Vice Chairman

Min Bahadur Shrestha has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC). Shrestha was the Vice Chairman of NPC during the previous tenure of Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda as the prime minister in 2073 BS. Shrestha is the former Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank.

PM Dahal appoints Haribol Gajurel as political advisor

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has appointed  CPN-Maoist Center Deputy General Haribol Gajurel to the post of  political advisor. Leader Gajurel confirmed that the Prime Minister appointed him as an advisor on Monday.

Nepali team announced for U-19 World Cup Qualifiers

The Nepali team has been announced for the ICC U-19 Men’s World Cup Asia qualifiers to be held in the UAE at the end of February. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced the 14-member Nepali team. Nepal will compete with UAE, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia and Singapore in Asia Division One selection.

Spot fixing case: Ansari and former cricketer Mehboob Alam arrested

Former national cricketer Mehbub Alam and member of the national cricket team Adil Ansari have been arrested for being involved in spot-fixing in the Nepal T20 League. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) team arrested them, a top police source said.

Gold traded at Rs 105,300 per tola today

Gold price has increased Rs 300 per tola to trade at Rs 105,300 as compared to the previous trading day. Similarly, Tejabi (22 carat) gold price has been fixed at Rs 104,800 per tola, an increase of Rs 300 per tola as opposed to the previous trading day, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association.

Bhupendra Rai appointed NC’s Chief Whip of Province 1

Bhupendra Rai has been appointed as the Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party in Province 1. Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Uddhav Thapa appointed Rai as chief whip on Monday. The party has 29 lawmakers in the Province 1 State Assembly.

Buddha’s idol installed in Chaurideurali of Kavrepalanchowk

A 22-feet tall statue of Lord Buddha has been erected at Chaurideurali Rural Municiplaity-6. Arubot in Kavrepalanchowk. The Buddha idol was prepared on the initiative of Dhinimhendo Tamang Utthan Samaj, a local organization, at the cost of Rs 7 million.

Snow-capped mountains turning black

Until some years back, the mountainous ridges were seen with snow-capped during the winter season. There used to be a huge inflow of foreign tourists here to take joy of majestic beauty of the Himalayas and play with snow. But, the silver-like glittering mountains are now turning to be black rocks arguably due to the effects of climate change.
