KATHMANDU: An Iranian national, attempting to cross into Nepal unlawfully, received a two-year prison sentence in an Indian facility.

Hussain Hamidia, aged 38, faced a two-year imprisonment verdict from a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district.

In addition to the prison term, Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Srivastava imposed a fine of 10,000 Indian rupees on Hamidia.

Hussain was apprehended at the Nepal-India border a year ago, accused of using falsified documents to enter Nepal.

He faced charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating by impersonation, forgery, and using forged documents, along with violations of the Foreigners Act.

Mishra highlighted that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional one-month jail term for the Iranian national.
