KATHMANDU: The whereabouts of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student held captive since the October 7 Hamas attack in southern Israel, remain unknown, adding to the challenges faced by the government in securing his repatriation.

Hamas has declared a halt to hostage releases until a complete cessation of aggression, complicating efforts to bring Joshi back.

The government has sought support from Qatar and international communities for Joshi’s rescue, intensifying diplomatic efforts.

Despite previous exchanges between Israel and Hamas, Joshi was excluded from the list.

The conflict’s toll is alarming, with 10 Nepali students killed and an Israeli report citing 20,000 deaths in Gaza, including 8,000 children and 6,200 women.

Hamas reportedly holds about 120 hostages at present. Despite ongoing negotiations in Cairo, Egypt, discussions on a new truce on Wednesday did not lead to an agreement.

As the situation unfolds, the uncertainty surrounding Joshi’s fate adds urgency to diplomatic endeavors, emphasizing the pressing need for resolution amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
