PM Dahal condoles demise of party’s central advisor Bhatta



KATHMANDU: CPN-Maoist Center Chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has expressed sorrow over the demise of the party’s central advisor Khemraj Bhatta ‘Mayalu’.

Paying tributes to the departed soul, PM Dahal extended condolences to bereaved families and Bhatta’s co-fighters.

Bhatta, also a former Member of Parliament, passed away last night at the age of 73. He was suffering from lung cancer. He joined the Unified Maoist Center in 2070 BS and served as a central advisor to the party.

Meanwhile, issuing a condolence message here today, Maoist Center Acting Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha extended tributes to the late Bhatta.

Acting Chairperson Shrestha also offered condolences to the disheartened families.

Late Mayalu forayed into politics with his involvement in Nepali Congress after migrating from Dadheldhura district to Daulatpur in Bardia district. He was imprisoned for eight years for protesting against the autocratic Panchayati reign.

Popularly known as a republican politician in the country, Mayalu was elected to the House of Representatives (HoR) from Bardiya constituency no. 3 in 2056 BS representing the Nepali Congress. He served as the Minister for General Administration in 2059 BS.

He also lived in exile and underground for 14 years to establish a republic in the country. Born in the Nepali month of Ashad 19 in 2007 at Bhageshwor rural municipality, he died last Thursday leaving behind two sons.
