Acting PM Khadka urges negotiators to swiftly wrap up discussions with striking teachers



KATHMANDU: Acting Prime Minister and Defence Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka has directed the government talks team to conclude the dialogue with the agitating teachers today itself.

Expressing their dissatisfaction with some provisions in the School Education Bill, school teachers from across the country have gathered in Kathmandu, the federal capital of Nepal, and protested for the past three days putting forth various demands.

The protest has been led by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation.
Acting Prime Minister Khadka directed the government talks team to conclude the consultations with protesting teachers today itself, said the minister’s secretariat.

In the Ministry of Defence today, Minister Khadka held a discussion with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, also coordinator of the government talks team, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dhan Raj Gurung, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Ashok Rai, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma, Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal Baikuntha Aryal and secretaries of various departments. In today’s meeting, they discussed the issue of fulfilling the legitimate demands of protesting teachers today itself.
