UML’s House obstruction linked to impending Chairman Oli arrest: Unified Socialist lawmaker Chaudhary

KATHMANDU: Met Mani Chaudhary, a lawmaker from the CPN-Unified Socialist party, has asserted that UML Chairman KP Oli is on the brink of arrest, further alleging that the main opposition party is using its House obstruction strategy to thwart this.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, the parliamentarian from the ruling party accused Oli of complicity in various cases, including the fabricated Bhutanese refugees’ scandal, illicit gold trafficking, land exchange in Giri Bandhu Tea Estate located in Jhapa, and other offenses. Chaudhary contended that the UML’s persistent disruption of parliamentary proceedings stems from their apprehension that Oli could face arrest.

“KP Oli bears culpability, and his apprehension is warranted. He should undergo investigation,” Chaudhary emphasized.

UML has been employing a parliamentary obstruction approach, pressing for the establishment of a high-level committee tasked with investigating gold smuggling. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police is presently conducting an inquiry into the matter. However, the UML insists that the CIB lacks the authority to probe the potential involvement of the Home Minister or other government figures in the gold smuggling affair.

Furthermore, UML took the decision to boycott the all-party gathering convened by President Ram Chandra Paudel at the Sheetal Niwas on Tuesday morning.
