13 die, 26 missing in monsoon-induced floods, landslides so far

KATHMANDU: At least 13 people have died and 26 others injured in monsoon-induced floods and landslides in various parts of the country.

Home Ministry’s Officiating Secretary Mahadev Panth told the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly that 13 people have so far died in monsoon-induced floods and landslides so far.

In a meeting of the Committee held today at Singha Durbar, he provided preliminary information about the damages caused by the recent floods and landslides, but further details are still awaited.

According to him, the government has prioritized rescue, relief, and risk management efforts in response to these natural disasters.

As he said, last fiscal year the government allocated approximately Rs 1.15 billion for relief and assistance related to incidents of natural disasters.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, is scheduled to brief the meeting about the scale of natural disasters in the country, the volume of losses, preparedness for risk reduction and response and so on.
