DoFE halts foreign employment approval in two positions to UAE, Qatar

KATHMANDU: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has halted approval for foreign employment in the position of motorcycle rider and taxi driver to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar.

It acted on complaints by Nepali migrant workers in the respective foreign countries that they have been deprived of salaries and other facilities as per the agreement by their employers. It informed about the decision through a notice.

Lately, the DOFE received many complaints by Nepali workers in the foreign employment destinations that they have been facing many problems ranging from being deprived of salaries agreed upon to being fined for violating traffic rules and meeting with road accidents due to a lack of knowledge and experiences of traffic rules, said the DOFE information officer Krishna Prasad Bhusal.

So, the Department halted foreign employment permission in these positions in the two foreign job destinations, he said, adding that this decision will implement until another decision.

The Nepali embassies in Qatar and the UAE have been also informed about the matter, according to the notice.
