LSP leaders urge NC President Deuba to support Mahantha Thakur as President



KATHMANDU: Leaders of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) have urged Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to support LSP President Mahantha Thakur as the country’s new President.

LSP leaders held talks with NC President Deuba at the latter’s residence in Dhumbarahi on Wednesday morning on electing Thalur as the country’s new President.

LSP has proposed Thakur as the future president.

Talking to journaloists after the meeting, LSP leader Sarat Singh Bhandari said, “We told him (Deuba) that Thakur is a suitable character for consensus.”

Bhandari added that NC President was positive about the proposal.

LSP leader Bhandari insisted that Thakur was a suitable name for the post of the country’s President.

He added, “Thakur is a decent and gentlemanly leader and trusted by everyone.”

LSP leaders also met Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on Tuesday to seek his support.

Since the term of President Bidya Devi Bhandari is coming to an end on March 12, election for the new President will be held on March 9.

As the election date is approaching, political leaders are endeavoring to make consensus on the presidential candidate.
