Justice Sharma’s bench hearing writ against TikTok ban

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has scheduled the hearing for the petition challenging the government’s decision to ban the popular social media platform TikTok.

The case is set to be heard today in the single bench of Supreme Court Judge Binod Sharma.

The judgment date was confirmed following a previous session in the bench of Judge Kumar Chudal, where the fixed fee was not addressed as expected.

In response to the government’s ban on TikTok, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and others filed a writ seeking an interim order to revoke the ban and restore TikTok to its previous operational status.

The writ contends that the government’s decision is illegal, unconstitutional, malicious, and arbitrary.

The government, during the Council of Ministers meeting, had announced closure of TikTok, citing concerns about its impact on social harmony.
