Second round of talks between govt and agitating teachers inconclusive

KATHMANDU: The second round of talks between the government and agitating teachers of community schools ended inconclusively.

Kamal Giri, Press Adviser to Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, stated that the talks, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, could not yield any positive outcome.

The meeting saw the participation of officials representing teachers’ organizations from various political parties, including Kamala Tuladhar, President of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation.

On the government’s side, Home Minister Shrestha, Education Minister Ashok Rai, Education Secretary Suresh Adhikari, and Kathmandu Chief District Officer Jitendra Basnet were in attendance.

During the discussions, Home Minister Shrestha reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving the teachers’ concerns, recognizing them as issues that affect the entire education sector.

Minister Shrestha also pledged to address the legitimate demands of the teachers and engage in further discussions with other ministries to find solutions.

Despite the positive tone of the discussions, an agreement to halt the ongoing protest could not be reached.

Meanwhile, all Community schools remained closed today due to the strike of school teachers.

The Nepal Teachers’ Federation announced a strike in response to the Education Bbill recently introduced by the government in the Federal Parliament.

The Federation has announced the indefinite closure of schools across the nation, effective today (Thursday).

This has affected the education of over 7 million students throughout the country.
