Two SSPs investigating Fake Bhutanese Refugee case called to Headquarters

KATHMANDU: Two Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) investigating the Fake Bhutanese refugee case have been dragged to the police headquarters.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has brought Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office Chief SSP Manoj KC and District Police Range Kathmandu Chief SSP Dan Bahadur Karki to the Police Headquarters.

DIG Kuber Kadayat, the Central Spokesperson of the Police, shared that the letter regarding the transfer of two SSPs has been received by the Headquarters.

According to him, SSP Karki has been assigned the responsibility of the Secretariat of the Inspector General of Police and SSP KC in the Directorate of Women, Children and Senior Citizens of the Police Headquarters. KC was transferred to Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation office Seven months ago and Karki to District Police Range Kathmandu on January 12.

DIG Kadayat informed that the SSP Sanuram Bhattarai has been sent to the Secretariat of the National Security Council.

Earlier, the cabinet meeting on Friday had transferred AIG Shyamlal Gyawali to the police headquarters.

In the fake Bhutanese refugee case, Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and District Police Complex Kathmandu coordinated the investigation.

Former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Balkrishna Khan was arrested by a team led by SSP KC at his residence Maijubahal in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees.

The investigation in the Fake Bhutanese Refugee Case had been proceeded ahead in coordination with Valley Crime Investigation Office and the Kathmandu Police.

Dr. KC’s team had arrested the former Home Minister Nepali Congress leader Balkrishna Khand from the latter’s residence.

AIG Gyawali had recently directed officials to make preparations to take statements of Keshav Dulal and Sanu Bhandari, the main accused in the incidents, again.

In the last few weeks, 18 people from Lamjung, Sunsari, Sindhupalchok, Gorkha, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Kathmandu, and other districts have filed three complaints against Dulal, Bhandari and Ramsharan KC. It is mentioned in the complaint that they (Dulal, Bhandari, and KC)cheated 18.5 million rupees by saying that they would make themselves Bhutanese refugees.

The Crime Investigation Office took this complaint and sent it to District Police Range, Kathmandu for further action.
The source claimed that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba mounted pressure for the transfer of the high officials fearing the investigation could drag his wife Arju Deuba could be made subject to investigation in the fake refugee case.

SSP KC and Karki’s responsibility has been removed three days after transferring AIG Gyawali from the Crime Division investigating the fake refugee case.
