Koshi CM Thapa taking vote of confidence today

BIRATNAGAR: Koshi Province Chief Minister (CM) Uddhav Thapa is scheduled to undergo a vote of confidence process today in the provincial assembly.

On Sunday, CM Thapa reached out to the main opposition parties, CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), soliciting their support for this crucial vote.

“We have received a letter from the Chief Minister, requesting a vote of confidence,” stated UML chief whip Revati Raman Bhandari.

Nonetheless, Bhandari implied that the probability of UML granting a vote of confidence to Chief Minister Thapa seems slim.

Within the provincial assembly, the ruling coalition commands 47 votes, comprising 29 from Nepali Congress, 13 from Maoist Center, 4 from CPN-Unified Socialists, and 1 from Janata Samajbadi Party.

Meanwhile, in the opposition camp, UML holds 40 votes (inclusive of the Deputy Speaker’s vote), while RPP possesses 6 votes, thus totaling the opposition’s tally at 46 votes.
