KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Security Council, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ emphasized the importance of incorporating digital literacy in the school curriculum due to the increasing use of IT and national security needs.

Speaking at an interaction on ‘modern IT and its impact on national security’ organized by the National Security Council, PM Dahal highlighted the significance of technology-friendly education to promote digital literacy at all levels.

He stressed the need for individuals to become technology-friendly and acquire essential knowledge about suitable technologies for the country and society, as well as how to select the right technology to enhance their understanding.

PM Dahal expressed concerns over the risks posed by the misuse of technology and acknowledged that lack of sufficient knowledge on cyber technology could hinder the benefits while also increasing the risks. He urged for digital literacy to be included in school curriculums to equip students with the necessary skills and awareness about cyber technology.

National security, according to the Prime Minister, is interconnected with internal security, law and order, peace, and border security. He emphasized the shift from state-centered security to people-centered security, focusing on national information and public security alongside political freedom and territorial integrity.

The rise in cyber attacks and cybercrime has made the protection of national data and personal privacy more complex. The PM called for preventive measures against cyber threats and suggested upgrading the scale of cyber security to counter cybercrime effectively.

To enhance cyber security, the government plans to introduce a Cyber Security Policy and IT-related bills in the parliament.

PM Dahal acknowledged the importance of raising awareness about cyber security among the masses and pledged the government’s support and cooperation in launching an awareness campaign within the civic circle.
