Indian technical team inspects bridge project in Baitadi

BAITADI: A technical team led by engineer Om Prakash from the Road Department, India has inspected the Salghari area at the border between Nepal and India where the construction of a motorable bridge over the Mahakali River has been proposed.

The area where the project is proposed lies at the Salghari area near Maurabhir on the Nepal side and SSB (Seema Suraksha Bal) camp on the India side.

As per the proposal, a 500 meters long bridge will be constructed at the estimated cost of Rs 4.5 billion funded by the Government of India, and an additional Rs 200 million is estimated to carry out a survey, prepare a detailed project report, and compensation for the land acquired for the project, according to the team.

The project is expected to relieve people who are now using around 100-year-old suspension bridge at Jhulaghat for mobility and is believed to benefit citizens of both Nepal and India.

With the construction of the bridge, the economic and trade activities of both countries would be improved, said a local resident Tej Prakash Bhatta.

“It is a matter of excitement for us that a technical team has inspected the project site. The project will help increase the economic prosperity of both countries,” he said.
