Free health camp to create awareness about cervical cancer

KATHMANDU: A free health camp has been organized here at Kandaghari in Kathmandu with the aim of identifying cervical and women’s breast cancer and providing required health counseling.

Organized by the Nepal Charkha Prasarak Gandhi Tulasi Smarak Mahaguthi with the technical assistances of the Cancer Care Foundation, the one-day camp aims to provide service around 200 women, said the organizer.

On the occasion, Mayor of the Kageshwori Manohara Municipality Upendra Karki expressed the hope that the camp would be beneficial in identifying and treating cervical and breast cancer, and creating awareness.

He also pledged to organize such camp in all wards of the municipality. Cancer is taking its toll for want of awareness. “The disease can be treated when it is diagnosed early. An awareness campaign should take place and the municipality takes initiatives in expanding such drive in coordination with the Foundation”, mentioned Karki.

The camp was organized to create awareness about the disease, said Dr Sarita Ghimire, who works for the Foundation. “It is our small try to save people from cancer. So, we will actively participate in such other campaigns in the days to come.”
