DAO declares five key locations in Kathmandu as prohibited areas
The District Administration Office, Kathmandu has imposed restrictions on five major locations in the city, declaring them prohibited areas for the next two months. The decision, outlined in a notice issued today, designates the following areas as prohibited zones for the specified duration: President’s Office Sheetal Niwas to Prime Minister’s Official residence in Baluwatar; Federal Parliament Building; Singha Durbar; Vice President’s Office; and Maitighar Mandala to New Baneshwar Chowk.
Hearing Committee approves nominees for Supreme Court justices
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee granted approval on Wednesday for all six justices recommended for the Supreme Court (SC). The Judicial Council had put forward the names of Saranga Subedi, Abdul Ajij Musalman, Mahesh Sharma Poudel, Tek Prasad Dhungana, Sunil Pokharel, and Bal Krishna Dhala for the esteemed positions, and their nominations were endorsed during the committee meeting.

NA Election: 2,074 voters with a total vote weightage of 57,559
The Election Commission (EC) has given its nod to the list of voters for the forthcoming National Assembly (NA) election scheduled for January 25. The approved list comprises 2,074 individuals, including 549 members of provincial assemblies and 1,498 Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of Rural Municipalities and Mayor and Deputy Mayors of Municipalities.
Govt sets sugarcane purchase price at Rs 635 per quintal
The government has determined the purchase price of sugarcane, announcing it at Rs 635 per quintal. Government Spokesperson Rekha Sharma said that the decision was made during the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday. Initially set at Rs 565 per quintal, the government introduced a subsidy of Rs 70 per quintal, bringing the final purchase price to Rs 635.
Nearly 700,000 Nepalis seek employment abroad last year
Over the past year, a staggering 699,841 Nepali nationals have ventured abroad in search of employment opportunities, encompassing both individuals obtaining new permits and those renewing existing ones. Among this total, 424,480 individuals secured new labor permits during the specified period.
Rising cases of dollar exchange fraud: Kathmandu Valley faces wave of looting incidents
Incidents of looting under the guise of dollar exchange are witnessing a surge in the Kathmandu Valley. The District Police Range, Kathmandu, has reported the presence of a criminal racket engaged in fraudulent activities related to dollar exchange within the Valley. Kumud Dhungel, Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police for the Police Range Kathmandu, disclosed that cases of deception involving the exchange of dollars have been reported from various areas within the Valley.
Gold price up by Rs 1,000 per tola today
Gold price increased by Rs 1,000 per tola in the Nepali market today. According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of fine gold was fixed at Rs 119,000 per tola and standard gold was traded at Rs 118,450 per tola. The precious yellow metal was valued at Rs. 118,000 per tola, and standard gold at Rs. 117,450 per tola on Tuesday.

Bus-truck collision in Bara claims three lives
In a devastating incident earlier Wednesday morning, three individuals lost their lives, and 27 others sustained injuries when a bus and a truck collided at Bara. The accident occurred at 2 AM at Amlekhgunj in Bara district, involving a bus (Ba 3-001 Kha 2587) traveling from Kakadbitta to Kathmandu and a truck (Na 7 Kha 7300) on its way from Hetauda to Pathaliya.
