KATHMANDU: Ambassador of India, Naveen Srivastava, marked a significant milestone during his visit to the Sudurpashchim province on 17-18 September by inaugurating three crucial education sector projects in Kanchanpur and Kailali districts.
During his visit, Ambassador Srivastava officially opened three Community Development Projects, including one campus building and two school buildings, funded by the Government of India with a total investment of NRs. 90.80 million. These projects include Tikapur Multiple Campus (NRs. 35.20 million) in Tikapur Municipality, Kailali district, Shree Pashupati Shiksha Mandir (NRs. 26.40 million) in Belauri Municipality, and Shree Siddhanath Secondary School (NRs. 29.20 million) in Bhimdatta Municipality, Kanchanpur district. The inauguration ceremony was attended by political leaders, social workers, Nepal Government officials, campus and school representatives, and local communities.
These projects, benefiting nearly 2,500 students in Kanchanpur and Kailali districts, were initiated as High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation framework. They are set to enhance educational infrastructure in the region, particularly for the youth. The projects were executed by the District Coordination Committees (DCC) in Kailali and Kanchanpur.
Ambassador Srivastava, accompanied by Ramesh Lekhak, a House of Representatives member from Kanchanpur, and local government officials, also visited the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Dodhara Chandni project site. An agreement for this ICP, financed through Indian grants, was signed during the recent visit of the Right Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal to India in June 2023. The ICP is expected to strengthen economic ties and significantly benefit the Sudurpashchim province.
During his visit, the Ambassador engaged with representatives of the Nepal-India Friendship Association and local chambers of commerce. He lauded their role in enhancing India-Nepal bilateral relations and discussed strategies to further fortify the friendly ties through increased people-to-people and economic connections.
Ambassador Srivastava reaffirmed the robust development partnership between India and Nepal and reiterated India’s commitment to bolster this partnership in alignment with Nepal’s priorities for the mutual benefit of both nations.
India has undertaken 546 High Impact Community Development Projects in Nepal across various sectors since 2003, successfully completing 483 of them. Of these, 40 projects are located in Sudurpashchim Province, with 8 in Kailali District and 10 in Kanchanpur district.
Additionally, the Government of India has generously provided 974 ambulances and 234 school buses to various healthcare facilities and educational institutions in Nepal. Notably, 10 ambulances and 10 school buses were allocated to Kailali District, while 14 ambulances and 2 school buses were allocated to Kanchanpur district, including one ambulance and four school buses provided recently in July 2023.
These projects underscore India’s commitment to Nepal’s development and complement the nation’s efforts to enhance educational infrastructure.
