NHRC calls to protect MP Gautam’s life



KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called on the government to address the demands raised by the member of the House of Representatives, Sanjay Kumar Gautam, who is on a hunger strike and thereby save his life.

During the on-site monitoring of the hunger strike, the NHRC Lumbini Province Branch Office, Nepalgunj noticed serious problems with his health, and has urged him to resolve the problem through negotiations and pay attention to saving his life.

“The NHRC urges the Government of Nepal to ensure the right of development of the common citizens by addressing the reasonable demands raised by Parliamentarian Gautam through meaningful dialogue,” reads a press statement released by Dr Tikaram Pokharel, the spokesperson of the NHRC.

Gautam is a member of the House of Representatives elected from Bardiya constituency No. 1.

He has been on a hunger strike for the past seven days in Bardiya putting forth a 15-point demand under the campaign– ‘Save our Bardiya: Make better Bardiya’.
