PM Dahal seeking vote of confidence today



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives meeting today (Monday).

PM Dahal, who was appointed as the Prime Minister on December 25, 2022, with the support of the 7-party alliance, had also taken a vote of confidence on January 10.

PM Dahal is seeking a vote of confidence yet another time after the CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), which had supported the government, withdrew their support and quit the government.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire has called a meeting of the House of Representatives at 1 pm on Monday after Prime Minister Dahal announced that he would take a vote of confidence.

Prime Minister Dahal has the support of the Nepali Congress, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, Unified Socialist, Janamat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Rastriya Janamorcha, Nepal Samajwadi Party, Aam Janata Party, and other parties.

This means that PM Dahal, who needs the support of 138 MPs of the House of Representatives, will get the vote of confidence.

Currently, the HoR has In 88 MPs from Nepali Congress, 32 from Maoist Center, 19 from Rastriya Swatantra Party, 12 from Janata Samajwadi Party, 10 from Unified Socialist Party, 6 from Janamat Party, 4 from Nagarik Unmukti Party, 4 from Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, 1 from Rastriya Janamorcha, 1 from Nepal Samajwadi Party, 1 from Aam Janta Party and some independent MPs.

On the other hand, the opposition party CPN-UML has 79 MPs in the HoR, and the RPP has 14 MPs.
