Mustang Bhadrapur-Jhapa Gold Cup: Church Boys United defeats NPC

JHAPA: The Church Boys United has entered the quarterfinals of the first Mustang Bhadrapur-Jhapa Gold Cup football tournament.

In the match held today at Mechi Stadium, the Church Boys United defeated Nepal Police Club by 3-0. For the winning team, Gagandeep Singh scored the first goal in the 40th minute while Ashish Chaudhary scored a brace in the 56th and 60th minutes of the match.

Chaudhary was declared the player of the match to win a cash prize of Rs 20,000.

Following the win, the Church Boys will now play Machhindra Football Club in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. The first quarter-final match will be held on Tuesday between the host Bhadrapur Blazers and Sankata Club Kathmandu.

A total of team including three from outside the country are participating in the first Bhadrapur Jhapa Gold Cup that began on Sunday. The winners of the Gold Cup will walk home with a cash prize of Rs.1.3 million while the runner-up will get Rs.700,000, according to chairperson of the organizing committee,  Dipesh Dhakal.
