Sandeep Lamichhane to go to SC against High Court order

KATHMANDU: Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has decided to go to go to the Supreme Court against the order of the High Court.

According to advocate Saroj Krishna Ghimire, Lamichhane is preparing to file a petition in the Supreme Court for the review of the foreign travel ban and bail amount imposed by the High Court.

“We will go to the Supreme Court, most probably, tomorrow,” said Ghimire. “Due to the ban imposed by the court, it is likely that Lamichhane will not be able to participate in the upcoming series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).”
The court also ordered Lamichhane to pay a bond of 2 million rupees.

Sandeep, who was arrested on charges of raping a minor, was ordered to be released on bail by the High Court on January 12. A division bench of Patan High Court comprising Judges Dhruvraj Nand and Ramesh Dhakal ordered Sandeep to be released on bail.

Lamichhane approached the Patan High Court with a writ petition against the detention order issued by the Kathmandu District Court in the case of minor rape.
In the order given by the court, Sandeep has been banned from leaving Nepal and is prohibited from meeting, threatening or influencing petitioner’s family.

Similarly, it is prohibited to write about the case on social media. The order has also stipulated that in case of leaving the valley, Sandeep should take prior consent from the Kathmandu police, and the former captain’s phone calls, messages and location would be continuously monitored.
