Parliamentary committee directs govt to collect outstanding taxes from Ncell, suspend approvals for share transactions

KATHMANDU: In a decisive move, the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, during its Tuesday meeting in the presence of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has directed the government to pursue the collection of outstanding taxes owed by Ncell.

Additionally, the committee has called on authorities not to approve or endorse any agreements related to the sale and purchase of Ncell shares until investigative reports are obtained.

The committee further instructed the government to conduct a thorough investigation into the entity acquiring Ncell shares and seek detailed reports from the Nepal Telecommunication Authority regarding ongoing studies and actions taken in connection to the case.

In a bid to assert greater control, the committee has also mandated the government to make necessary amendments to existing laws and provisions, aiming to bring Ncell under government ownership.
