PM Dahal seeks UN assistance for completing Nepal’s Transitional Justice process

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has emphasized the government’s relentless efforts to successfully conclude Nepal’s transitional justice (TJ) process and has requested the support and assistance of the United Nations.

During his meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York, Prime Minister Dahal underscored the importance of United Nations assistance as Nepal progresses towards becoming a developing country.

The Prime Minister’s Secretariat stated that the meeting, held at the UN headquarters in New York, covered a wide range of topics, including the remaining tasks related to Nepal’s peace process, climate change, the challenges faced by least-developed countries (LDCs), development initiatives, mutual cooperation, and partnerships.

Prime Minister Dahal, who led the Nepali delegation to the 78th United Nations General Assembly in the United States, also tweeted about the productive discussion he had with Secretary-General Guterres.

Secretary General Guterres expressed his gratitude for Nepal’s significant contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and other UN activities.

The statement issued by the Secretary General’s spokesperson highlighted discussions on shared concerns such as climate change and the challenges faced by landlocked developing countries.

Additionally, the meeting addressed Nepal’s transition from a less developed state to a developing country, scheduled for 2026.
