Sudurpaschim’s contribution to cricket significant: Minister Deuba

DHANGADHI: Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development of Sudurpaschim Province, Prakash Deuba, has said Sudurpaschim has had huge contribution to the advancement of cricket in the country.

Speaking at the second annual general meeting of Sudurpaschim Provincial Cricket Association at Dhangadhi of Kailali today, Minister Deuba mentioned that Sudurpaschim always played a leading role in the management and coordination of Nepali cricket as well as in producing cricketers.

He expressed commitment on behalf of the province government to provide possible support for the development of overall sports including cricket in Sudurpaschim. A detailed project report has been forwarded for the construction of the Phapla cricket stadium.

Minister Deuba further said that it was necessary to increase investment in sports of Sudurpaschim Province.

Similarly, Chairperson of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Chatur Bahadur Chand said he failed to carry out sufficient activities for the development of cricket in his incumbent tenure due to various reasons including the coronavirus pandemic.

He mentioned that it is the golden period for the development of Nepali cricket, adding that the governments of all seven provinces have to forward sports-related plans to make at least five cricketers in each province self-dependent.

Stating that an environment has been created in Nepali cricket where players can earn both name and fame, Chand viewed Sudurpaschim is the fertile land for cricket. The CAN is always active in the development of cricket of the country, he shared.

Representatives of cricket association of eight districts of Sudurpaschim Province are taking part in the general meeting.
