DODHARA CHANDANI: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, has said the four-lane bridge which is under construction over the Mahakali River will be a backbone of prosperity in Sudurpaschim Province.

During an onsite inspection of the under-construction bridge here today, Minister Jwala argued that the construction of the bridge would help foster economic development in the country. “With the bridge under construction, even the works for construction of a dry port at Dodhara Chandani have been forwarded,” he said, adding that the port would be operated effectively and as a major border point.

According to him, the Mahakali Bridge would be a multi-purpose infrastructure and an alternative to the Sharada barrage. “It not only connects Nepal and India but also promotes tourism,” he observed.

Minister Jwala also vowed to ensure every sort of assistance and facilitation for the timely construction of the bridge.

On the occasion, an engineer of a construction company, Kishor Raj Pandey, informed that 90 percent works of the bridge had been completed. The access roads and pools on both sides of the bridge were being constructed now.

It is worth noting that during the India visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, an agreement was made to construct a dry port within three years. The detailed project report (DPR) of dry port being constructed with Indian assistance is getting finalized soon.
