CIB sufficient for handling corruption cases: NC General Secretary Sharma

DHANKUTA: Bishwa Prakash Sharma, the General Secretary of Nepali Congress (NC), has stated that a high-level committee is unnecessary for investigating the gold smuggling case, as the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police is fully competent to manage corruption and criminal cases.

During a program organized by NC’s policy and training wing in Dhankuta on Saturday, Sharma expressed his belief that reopening corruption cases and prosecuting the culprits could establish good governance.

“All corruption cases must be reopened for a thorough investigation,” he remarked, further stating, “All those involved should be incarcerated.”

Sharma, the General Secretary, stressed that a high-level committee is redundant for initiating a corruption inquiry due to the presence of the CIB.

“The CIB will handle cases such as the counterfeit Bhutanese Refugees, the Lalita Niwas case, the statements of two former prime ministers regarding their alleged participation in the Lalita Niwas Land scam, and other related matters,” he explained. He added, “Conveying the message that the party is actively engaged in an anti-corruption campaign is crucial.”

Furthermore, Sharma emphasized that obstructing the Parliament should be avoided, as it serves as the voice of the people.

“The Parliament acts as a platform to articulate public aspirations, strategize national development, and ensure justice and equality for all,” he asserted, concluding that “the designated forum for people’s representatives should not face disruptions.”
