Lumbini Chief Minister Giri secures vote of confidence



LUMBINI: Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Leela Giri has secured a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly on Thursday.

He received 57 votes in favor while 28 votes were cast against the vote of confidence.

Members of Provincial Assembly of eight political parties and two independent members voted in favor of Giri.

Those included 29 from CPN (UML), eight from Maoist Centre, four each from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Nagarik Unmukti Party, three each from Janata Samajwadi Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party and Janamat Party, one from CPN (Unified Socialist) and two independent members.

Maoist Center Parliamentary Party Leader Jokha Bahadur Mahara was unable to attend the polls after his mother passed away.

Members of Nepali Congress, Unified Socialist and Rastriya Jana Morcha voted against the no confidence motion.

However, Unified Socialist parliamentarian Bhagwati Ghimire gave her vote of confidence to Chief Minister Giri.

After winning the vote, Chief Minister Giri expressed his commitment to work together with all the parties in the assembly with the common goal of making the province prosperous.
