Three roads to be blacktopped with World Bank’s grant

BAGLUNG: Three roads in Baglung Municipality are to be asphalted with the grant assistance of the World Bank. The World Bank and the Municipality signed a MoU for this project in 2020.

As per the agreement, the grant of Rs 580 million is to be invested for infrastructure and social development and the Municipality shall spend the amount under these two headings.

The Municipality has kicked off works on blacktopping the three roads, citing upgrading the roads as the first priority under the physical infrastructure development.

The agreement is implemented three years after its signing and the Municipality has started works on preparing DPR of these roads. The blacktopping of these roads would be completed within two years, it is said.

The three selected roads would be widened to eight meters and 13 kilometers would be black-topped.

Mayor Basanta Kumar Shrestha said that the World Bank representatives have also conducted a study of the three selected roads.

“Only 17 municipalities throughout the country have received this grant. The Baglung Municipality will utilize the grant in blacktopping of three roads which will contribute to the development of physical infrastructures of the town,” he said.

According to him, three standard roads would be constructed within the municipality in one and half years under the Municipality’s Urban Governance and Infrastructure Development Program initiated three years ago.

The three roads selected for blacktopping are the 8.6 kilometers road from Ward No 7, Mulpani to Titaure, the 2.5 kilometers road from Odarchaur to Dhodeni, and the 1.5-kilometer road from Ganesh Ghumti to Nirayaghat.
