Man beaten to death over dispute

LUMBINI: A man was beaten to death over a general dispute between local youths. The incident took place in Tinau Rural Municipality in Palpa district.

The deceased has been identified as Sunil Khatri, 24, of Dovan of the rural municipality, said the district police office, Palpa.

According to Inspector Santosh Chand, the information officer for the district police office, Palpa, Khatri was beaten to death at around 12:30 am on Monday when a dispute between the local youth escalated.

Khatri, who was seriously injured was brought to Lumbini Regional Hospital for treatment, and died during treatment at 1:45 am, informed Police Inspector Chand.

A dispute took place between the youths while women were dancing at night after eating dar (a special pudding consumed by women on the eve of the Teej festival). The preliminary investigation showed that Khatri was beaten up after the fight over the same issue turned violent, informed Chand.

The police have arrested four youths in connection with the murder. But the police have not revealed additional details. A team including Superintendent of Police Heramba Sharma, chief of the district police office, Palpa, has reached the incident site and is investigating the incident.
