KATHMANDU: Six Chinese individuals, including Belgian citizen Dawa Chiring, who were apprehended in a gold smuggling case involving 60 kg of gold, have been discovered to possess both Nepali citizenship and passports.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police confiscated Nepali citizenship certificates and passports from the Chinese nationals who were implicated in smuggling gold to Nepal via Hong Kong.

CIB’s inquiry has exposed that the seven individuals acquired their Nepali citizenship and passports through the District Administration Office in Kavrepalanchok.

Yo Pucheng, alleged to be the primary orchestrator of the gold smuggling operation, was apprehended by the CIB on Thursday evening.

Similarly, Lee Weng Sung was also arrested by the police from Lainchaur on the same evening. The Department of Revenue Investigation has identified them as key members of the Chinese gang engaged in gold smuggling.

Moreover, the police detained four Chinese nationals linked to a gold smuggling case in Kathmandu this Wednesday.

It has been unveiled that these individuals obtained Nepali citizenship and passports from Kavrepalanchowk in the years 2021 and 2022.

The CIB is now in the process of obtaining comprehensive information from the District Administration Office in Kavrepalanchowk regarding this matter.
