MUGU: Snakebite patients in the Mugu district are facing grave difficulty in availing treatment in their locality in the lack of snakebite treatment centers.

Poisonous snakes found in Terai have begun appearing in hilly areas lately. Hence, more and more cases of snakebites are reported in hilly areas as well these days.

Dr. Kamal Dhungana, Chief of the District Hospital in Mugu, shared that there was a shortage of trained doctors to treat the snakebite patients in the hospital”. He added, “There is a problem in the treatment of snakebite patients due to lack of anti-snake venom serum, ICU and ventilator.”

Snakebite patients who come to the District Hospitals are sent outside of the district for treatment, according to him.

Baidevi Sejuwal of Chayannath Rara Municipality-4 complained that she was bitten by a snake last June and had to be treated by the Jharphuk method after the snakebite was not treated at the district hospital. She demanded that the snakebite treatment service should be availed in the district hospital.

Similarly, Karna Bahadur Budha of Chayanath Rara Municipality-12 bemoaned over the lack of a snakebite treatment center in the district hospital.
