TAPLEJUNG: Three members of the same family have been missing when a landslide swept away their house in Mehele of Taplejung district, authorities said.

Chief District Officer of Taplejung, Goma Devi Chemjong said three members of the same family are missing when a mudslide swept away the house of Yadav Budhathoki in the district.

Budhatholi’s wife Bhagimaya, daughter-in-law Sandhya and grandson Prajwal are missing, police said.

Locals, meanwhile, said Bharat Tamang of Mehele in the district, has gone missing.

It is said that Tamang, whose house was close to a river, went missing after helping his parents move to a safer area after heavy rainfall.

A team of police from Sablakhu police station has gone to the incident site.

Similarly, the houses of Deukumar Lingden and Guman Rai are at risk, while the building of the Mehe Health Post has been washed away by landslides.

Meanwhile, roads in the district are blocked due to floods and landslides.

A flood swept away a bridge in Hewakhola connecting Hilihang and Fidim municipalities under the Mechi highway.

The Mechi Highway, too, is blocked due to the collapse of the bridge at Panchthar.

Electricity has also been cut in places including Yamfudin, Khewang, Mehele, and Surumkhim, among other areas.
