LUMBINI: Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Leela Giri is seeking a vote of confidence from the province assembly on April 24.

Issuing a notice, Secretary of Lumbini Province Assembly Durlav Kumar Pun stated that the Province Assembly meeting has been summoned for April 24 as per Rule 12 (3) of the Province Assembly Regulations, 2079 BS.

Spokesperson of Lumbini Province Government and Minister for Urban Development Chet Narayan Acharya confirmed that the Chief Minister would seek a vote of confidence in the province assembly meeting.

Appointed as the Chief Minister of Lumbini Province on January 11, Giri had first taken the vote of confidence on January 19.

With the change in coalition in the federal government after the presidential election, the CPN (Maoist Centre) and other coalition parties in Lumbini Province have withdrawn their support, which resulted in Chief Minister Giri’s new move.

Earlier, Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) and six other political parties and an independent province assembly member have already submitted their signature to the Province Chief asking to appoint NC’s Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary as the new chief minister.

In the 87-member Lumbini Province Assembly, the UML has 29 lawmakers and four of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) — the two parties extending their support to Giri at present.
