Former King Gyanendra proposes “cooperation between political parties and institution of monarchy”

KATHMANDU: Former King Gyanendra Shah has proposed “cooperation” between the political parties and the Royal institution.

Stating that the country is in a decline, there is a need for cooperation between political parties and royal institution to preserve democracy.

Issuing a statement on the occasion of Democracy Day, former King Gyanendra said, “There should be no delay in cooperation between the political parties, which are indispensable for democracy, and the institution of monarchy with a long patriotic historical heritage, to save this country.”

He stated that the country’s long-term peace, stability and international image and sovereignty have begun to diminish, and corruption, economic laxity and social disorder have increased.

He said that even though there is a tradition of the monarchy to accept the decision of the Nepali people, it cannot remain silent in such an unfavorable situation.
