Election process for HoR Speaker begins today

Federal Parliament to elect Speaker on Thursday



KATHMANDU: The election process for the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) will begin today.

The nomination registration of the Speaker will be done today.

According to the schedule issued by the Federal Parliament Secretariat, nominations will be registered from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Along with the election of the Speaker, the process of selecting the Deputy Speaker will begin on January 21.

The list of candidates will be published today at 4:30 PM.

The proposals received will be submitted to the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday morning.

The received proposal will be supported by the members on behalf of the supporting parties after the proposer submits it to the meeting.

In case of only one proposal, the election of Speaker will be uncontested.

If voting is to be done, the assembly will be elected by the majority of the members immediately existing in the assembly.

At least 138 votes of members will be required to get elected as the Speaker in the 275-member House of Representatives.

CPN-UML has prepared to field Devraj Ghimire from the ruling alliance as the Speaker.
